Sonia Boyce’s two-channel video installation Ain’t Misbehavin’, (2022), features in ‘FERNWEH / Wanderlust, an exhibition on exoticism and cultural appropriation’ at MEWO Kunsthalle, Memmingen, Germany. The exhibition takes the Chinese Room, a room in the Hermansbau that houses the Memmingen City Museum, as opportunity to reflect on the traditions of the ‘exotic’ and the enthusiasm for the ‘foreign’. The exhibition juxtaposes the historical spatial design with works by contemporary artists who approach the subject from different geopolitical and postcolonial perspectives. The exhibition also includes Jérôme Chazeix, Ming Lu, Carlos Monroy & Patrick Schmid Friedensreich Hundertwasser Regentag Dunkelbunt and Max Unold.
